The G.I. Movement Past and POresent
1945: The vast majority of our generation is totally unaware of the fact that the end of 1945 and the beginning of 1946 saw the greatest troop revolt that has ever occurred in a victorious army. This was the "Bring the Troops Home" movement, following WW II. Organized by GIs in Europe and the Pacific, supported by mass sentiment at home, it frustrated Truman's plans to crush the Chinese revolution with a massive U.S. invasion.
1970: Today the antiwar movement is able to mobilize tens of thousands of Americans to protest the War in Vietnam and demand the troops be brought home immeditely. A dynamic force in the movement is the active duty GI. For the first time in this century, U.S. troops are demonstrating against a war while it is in progress
