Fort Hamilton GIs United
Fort Hamilton GIs United is continuing its court fight against the punitive transfer of several members of the First US Army Band following their- participation in legal antiwar demonstrations in the New York area.
Their case has yet to be finally decided, but Ft. Hamilton GIs United and their attornies from the New York National Lawyers Guild point out that much of the meaning of the case has already been made: "for the first time a federal court has chosen to intervene in what had previously been considered an internal matter for the Army." They are hoping that a decision will be granted barring the use of punitive transfer as a means of stifling First Amendment rights of GI dissenters, and that the Army will be forced to reconsider its treatment of legal protest activities within the ranks.
