GI Resistance Escalates
AWOL Army Pvt John Michael O'Connor was aprehended by military asgents in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology student center on November 10 (1968). He had taken refuge there on October 29, and had been absent from Fort Bragg since September 14. Nearly 1000 MIT stuidents had gathered around the center to protect Pvt. O'Connor
On November 8, Pvt. William Brakefield and Airman David Coop, absent from Sheppard AFB, Texas, had taken refuge on the campus of New York City College. Several hundred students formed a barrier to protect the GIs and were able to foil one attempted arrest by military agents. However the agents returned with NYC tactical police, who arrested 170 students in addition to Brakefield and Coop.
