Review: The Band

The Band

From TV Guide, 6/13-19/98

"There's something in this film that everyone has lived through," explains director David Zeiger, who spent a year with his 16-year-old son Danny and his friends in the Decatur High School marching band in Georgia.

Zeiger, who's divorced from Danny's mother, decided that it was time to get to know his son a little better. Having lost another son in a tragic accident, David didn't want time to slip away without forming a closer bond with Danny. As Danny and his friends grow more comfortable with the camera, they reveal their struggles with romance, detention, health crises and family problems with astonishing candor.
